Samsung unveils slimmest smartphone

Galaxy S25 Edge: Slim, smart, and powerful

Samsung has officially launched its slimmest flagship yet – the Galaxy S25 Edge. Equipped with enhanced artificial intelligence features, this move is seen as part of Samsung’s strategy to get ahead of Apple in the premium smartphone segment.

Designed for a younger audience

Samsung said that users want slimmer, more portable phones without compromising performance. To achieve this, the company redesigned internal components, including the circuit board and thermal systems, to reduce overall thickness.

Launching before Apple’s next move

Experts believe the launch was timed to beat Apple to the punch, with a thinner iPhone expected later this year.

“Samsung aims to attract users seeking slim smartphones before Apple enters the space,” said Ryu Young-ho, analyst at NH Investment & Securities.

Release dates and specs

The S25 Edge will go on sale on May 23 in South Korea and on May 30 in the U.S. Samsung plans to launch it in about 30 countries, including China and across Europe.

The phone starts at $1,099, features a 6.7-inch display, and measures only 5.8mm thick, making it slightly larger but barely heavier than the standard S25.

Real-time AI functionality

The Galaxy S25 Edge comes with Samsung’s latest built-in AI technology. The multimodal AI system allows users to interact with the phone via voice and camera in real time.

Samsung did not reveal the manufacturing location of the device. However, at the launch, it assured that performance and heat issues have been addressed.

“Some may worry about performance in slimmer phones, but we engineered a thinner vapor chamber for optimal thermal management,” said Samsung EVP Moon Sung-hoon.

Samsung overtakes Apple in Q1 2025

Samsung became the world’s top smartphone vendor in Q1 2025, capturing 20% of the market, just ahead of Apple’s 19%. Still, the company noted that tariff-related risks may affect shipments in Q2.
